Patented inventor, Dr. Arlyne Simon is an award-winning biomedical engineer, children's author, entrepreneur, and STEM advocate who thrives at the intersection of healthcare, technology, and K-5 invention education.
She is on a mission…
…to inspire kid inventors, everywhere, by changing the perception of what an inventor looks like.
Recognized as a trailblazing female innovator by the United States Patent and Trademark Office, Arlyne invented a blood test that detects when cancer patients reject bone marrow transplants. Her passion for healthcare has led her to design syringes, supercomputers, and ultrasound machines. She currently works as a Solutions Architect in Intel's Health and Life Sciences group.
Arlyne is founder of SeeSoar Kids, author of the award-winning Abby Invents picture book series and a 2019-2021 American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) IF/THEN Ambassador — a national STEM role model for girls. She is also a founding member of InventionLIT — a professional development workshop series that shows K-5 educators how to use children's literature as a launchpoint for invention education.
Other notable awards include Georgia Tech 40 Under 40 (Class of 2024) and Society of Women Engineers Engaged Advocate Award.
She is…
…1 of 120 women in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM), honored with a life-size, 3D-printed statue in the #IfThenSheCan - The Exhibit. This historical exhibit was on display at the Smithsonian Museum in DC in March 2022 and features the most statues of real women ever assembled together. In 2019-2021, Arlyne served as an American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) IF/THEN Ambassador.
A native of Dominica, she holds a Ph.D. in macromolecular science and engineering from the University of Michigan and an undergraduate degree in chemical & biomolecular engineering from Georgia Tech.
